Track your CPD hours in SignPrep

SignPrep is a free app for sign language interpreters, on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. It lets you log your CPD hours, see your progress, and export your record. The figures are guidance, not a compliance record.

What is CPD, and does SignPrep count CEUs?

CPD stands for Continuing Professional Development, the ongoing learning interpreters log to keep their certification current. In the US it is usually counted as CEUs (Continuing Education Units), for example through RID. The switch in SignPrep is called Track CPD / CEU Hours.

Which schemes and targets can I use?

Log CPD hours by activity type. Choose RID or NRCPD to see their suggested hours, or set your own target and renewal period. For Auslan, SignPrep names NAATI as the usual CPD body. CPD tracking starts on for ASL, BSL, and Auslan and off for other sign languages.

Carry-over is optional, off by default, and capped: extra hours from the last period can count towards the current one, up to a limit you set. Turn it on only if your scheme allows it.

Will SignPrep tell me if I am behind?

  • The Dashboard’s CPD card has a renewal pill: amber inside 30 days, green once you hit your target
  • A quarterly reminder if you are behind pace, plus a 30-day deadline alert
  • The CPD Progress widget shows the renewal countdown, and the Apple Watch CPD Progress complication shows the hours left to your target

How do I log hours?

Open CPD Hours from the Reflection tab and tap + to open Log CPD Hours, with activity type, date, hours, title, and notes. After an assignment, you can also log from your reflection, as the first question below explains. Exports show what the file keeps and removes before you share them; the privacy policy explains how they leave the app. More on CPD tracking.

Frequently asked questions

How do I log hours quickly after an assignment?

Save a reflection for the assignment, and the post-save screen offers a one-tap Log CPD button that preloads the assignment’s duration. You can also log from:

  • The + button on the CPD Hours screen (Reflection tab › the graduation-cap button, or the CPD Hours row)
  • Log CPD Hours in an assignment’s After group
  • The Log CPD control in Control Centre
  • The Log CPD Time action in the Shortcuts app

Log CPD Time asks you to confirm before anything is saved, and CPD has no Siri phrase.

How do I export my CPD record?

Reflection tab › CPD Hours › the share button, which opens Export CPD Hours with Export as PDF and Export as CSV. Before the share sheet opens, SignPrep shows what the file keeps and removes. Within 30 days of your renewal deadline, a reminder pill appears on the dashboard and the CPD widget.

Can I turn CPD tracking off?

Yes. Settings › CPD Tracking › Track CPD / CEU Hours. When off, the CPD Hours entry points on the Reflection tab, the dashboard card, and every Log CPD button are hidden. The CPD Progress widget stays and shows CPD Tracking Off, the Apple Watch CPD Progress complication shows a plain icon, and the Log CPD control in Control Centre stays and explains itself when tapped. The CPD actions stay in the Shortcuts app and say that CPD tracking is off. CPD tracking starts on for ASL, BSL, and Auslan and off for other sign languages.

What is CPD carry-over?

Optional and off by default. Settings › CPD Tracking › Carry Over Excess Hours lets extra hours from your last period count towards the current one, up to a Carry-Over Limit you set. Turn it on only if your scheme allows it. The CPD Progress widget and the Apple Watch show logged hours without carry-over, so with carry-over on they can differ from the CPD card in the app. CPD figures are guidance, not a compliance record.

Is my data private?

Your SignPrep data is stored on your devices: there is no account, and SignPrep keeps no copy of it. Some features can send what they need to a service such as Apple or Google, and the privacy policy lists each one and what it sends.
