One app, not five

Put down the calendar, stopwatch, notes app, and spreadsheet

Most interpreters stitch together a handful of generic tools to get through the day. SignPrep replaces that stack with one app built around how interpreting actually works.

The usual stack

  • Calendar for your assignments
  • Stopwatch for swap timing
  • Notes app for prep & signs
  • Spreadsheet for CPD hours

SignPrep

Prep, swap timing, glossary, CPD, and reflection — in one app, built around your data staying on your device.

Free. No account. No SignPrep-operated data servers.

A day, prepared

From the calendar invite to the drive home

Before

A medical job lands on your calendar

Open the assignment to check the location, generate a privacy-preserving AI Briefing with Apple Intelligence, then tap Prepare for this Assignment — one workspace for your checklist, research, key terms, notes, and resources. One tap opens directions.

During

You and your co-interpreter rotate

Live Session appears once the assignment is within an hour of starting. Start Swap Timer, and set the phone down in Ambient Mode — the countdown stays readable across the room and pulses when it is time to swap.

After

You close the loop on the drive home

Capture a DC-S reflection while it is fresh, then log your CPD hours in a tap. SignPrep tracks your renewal pace and reminds you before the deadline.

Over time

Your practice builds on itself

Your glossary grows, your reflection streak holds, and a monthly narrative surfaces patterns across mood, demands, and assignments — all kept to yourself.

Ready before you walk in.

Free. Private. Professional. On iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch — no account, no sign-up, and no SignPrep-operated data servers.

Why SignPrep

Built for the work, not bolted on to it

SignPrep is built around how interpreting actually works — by a practising interpreter, not a software company. There is no account to create, no subscription, no ads, and no SignPrep-operated data backend. You own everything, and it works the moment you open it. Built in Singapore, and built for sign language interpreters everywhere.

By a practising interpreter, not a software company.

  • Built by a practising interpreter. Every feature comes from real assignments, prep, and reflection.
  • Private by design. No account or SignPrep-operated cloud storage — your app data stays on your iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. AI may use Apple’s Private Cloud Compute for advanced processing.
  • Free, with no catch. No ads, no subscriptions, no in-app purchases — SignPrep is a native app you own, not a service you rent.

Before, during & after every assignment

One app for your entire interpreting workflow

Built as the all-in-one interpreter app, SignPrep gives sign language interpreters the tools to prepare for every assignment, reflect on their practice, and take care of their well-being — end to end. See the full list of features for sign language interpreters.

Assignments

Every job, ready before you walk in

Import from your work calendars with smart filtering, or add your own jobs with a Calendar-style editor — both are first-class routes in. Assignment Detail keeps the location, AI Briefing, notes, and the Prepare for this Assignment row together, and Live Session appears when the assignment is within an hour of starting or ongoing.

  • Live countdown to every assignment
  • One-tap Apple Maps & Google Maps directions
  • Generate a privacy-preserving AI Briefing for any upcoming or ongoing assignment
SignPrep assignment detail showing a live countdown, one-tap Apple Maps and Google Maps directions, and an AI preparation section

AI Preparation

One Preparation workspace for every assignment

Walk in already oriented to the topic. Tap Prepare for this Assignment to open one workspace that brings your checklist, topic research, reviewed web searches, key terms, notes, and resources together — plus Add More Context for AI, where you choose what Apple Intelligence may use. If your work calendar already contains useful details, SignPrep can optionally bring those Calendar Notes into Preparation too. Apple Foundation Models may process an AI request on your device or, for more advanced processing, through Private Cloud Compute. SignPrep cannot remotely access your AI requests or results.

AI suggestions are a starting point for your own prep, not a verified glossary. They can be incomplete or wrong, so always do your own preparation and confirm terminology against sources you trust.

  • Checklist, research, key terms, notes & resources in one place
  • Reviewed web search — you see and approve the general query before searching
  • Optional Calendar Notes context, off by default and controlled per assignment
  • Completed assignments keep preparation as read-only history

AI suggestions may be generated on your device or through Apple’s Private Cloud Compute and may be incomplete or inaccurate. Always do your own preparation.

Swap Timer & Swap Clock First of its kind

The first true interpreter swap timer

Never lose track of whose turn it is. Swap Timer cycles through Running, Swap Soon, and Swap Now with haptic cues, while Swap Clock follows the real clock when a fixed interval doesn't fit. Both support A/B interpreter roles and an Ambient Mode you can set down and read at a glance during live sessions.

  • Control from the Lock Screen, Dynamic Island & Control Centre
  • Interactive Live Activity: Swap, Restart, Pause, Stop
  • Start or control it from Apple Watch & Siri

And more

Everything else that runs your practice

Sign Glossary First of its kind

A personal video sign glossary — a first for interpreters. Build a searchable video library of your signs — record clips, tag by domain and sign language, review in slow motion, share as visual cards, or export your collection. AI suggests related words you may not have thought to record. See the glossary.

DC-S Reflections

Reflect with the Demand-Control Schema. Structured prompts walk you through environmental, interpersonal, paralinguistic, and intrapersonal demands, an interactive quiz sharpens your eye for categories, and you can flag entries for mentor discussion. See reflections.

CPD & CEU Tracking

Log Continuing Professional Development (counted as CEUs in the US) by activity type, with country-specific defaults for RID, NRCPD, and NAATI. Set your target and renewal period; SignPrep tracks your pace and alerts you within 30 days of renewal. Export as PDF or CSV.

Self-Care

Log mood daily and visualise trends. Track fatigue and cognitive load with colour-coded check-ins, follow guided breathing and interpreter-specific stretches, with AI suggestions drawn from your reflection history.

Apple Watch

View assignments and the swap timer on your wrist, with four complication families and Smart Stack cards that surface what's next. Start or control the timer from either device — they stay in sync.

Widgets & Live Activities

Home and Lock Screen widgets show greetings, upcoming assignments, CPD progress, and countdown gauges. One-tap New Sign, Reflect, and Log CPD shortcuts, plus Control Centre controls.

Siri & Shortcuts

Ask "What's my next assignment?", "What's my day like?", or "What's my swap timer status?". Start, pause, and stop the timer by voice. Log CPD, add a sign, or capture a reflection hands-free.

Resources

An interactive Code of Professional Conduct with seven tenets and real-world examples, customisable role cards for hearing clients, and region-specific links to your national association and Deaf community organisations.

Reminders & Notifications

Stay ahead without thinking about it. Get a pre-assignment reminder before you leave, a reflection nudge after the job ends, and CPD renewal alerts as your deadline approaches — each one deep-links straight to the right screen, and every type has its own toggle.

New in v1.5.2

A clearer way to prepare for every assignment

Version 1.5.2 introduces a unified Preparation workspace, optional Calendar Notes context, AI Briefings for assignments, contextual Live Session access, refreshed onboarding, and major reliability improvements.

Everything you need to prepare, in one place

Open an assignment's Preparation workspace to organise a checklist, research the topic, review web searches, collect key terms, add notes and resources, and give Apple Intelligence the context you choose. Completed assignments keep it all as read-only history.

Start with an AI Briefing

Generate a focused preparation Briefing directly from Assignment Detail. Review it alongside the location and assignment information, then open Preparation for deeper checklist, research, terminology, and context work.

Use the context already in your calendar

If a work-calendar event contains useful assignment details, SignPrep can optionally bring those notes into Preparation. You decide whether Calendar Notes may be included in Apple Intelligence context for each assignment — off by default, separate from your own notes, and never shown in widgets, notifications, Live Activities, Apple Watch, Spotlight, Siri, exports, logs, or analytics.

See and control what appears beyond the app

Privacy Preview explains how your current choices affect notifications, Live Activities, Apple Intelligence input, reflection exports, and Spotlight & Siri. Optional App Lock, title controls, protected app-switcher presentation, backup choices, and a local Security Activity Log provide additional layers of control.

Live tools when the assignment gets close

Live Session appears when an assignment is starting within the next hour or is ongoing, keeping the detail view focused until live timing tools are useful — then Ongoing Assignment, Swap Timer, and Ambient Mode are a tap away.

Set up SignPrep around the way you work

Refreshed onboarding lets you choose calendar import or manual assignments, configure relevant permissions when they are needed, and explore a guided demo of preparation, Live Session, Ambient Mode, and reflection — using fictional content that never touches your data.

Privacy-preserving intelligence — because confidentiality isn't optional

For interpreters, confidentiality is the first tenet of the Code of Professional Conduct — not a setting. Your SignPrep data is stored on your device. Apple Intelligence may process selected AI requests locally or use Private Cloud Compute for more advanced work. Apple states that no one else can access your data, not even Apple; SignPrep operates no AI servers and cannot remotely access your requests or results. With Privacy Preview, you can see how your choices affect notifications, Live Activities, AI input, reflection exports, and Spotlight & Siri. No account, and no PHI required.

  • Confidentiality first. Designed around the Code of Professional Conduct so consumer and assignment details never leave your control.
  • From your calendar only. Assignments are imported read-only from the device calendars you choose — SignPrep never edits your calendar.
  • No SignPrep-operated data servers. Your app data is stored on your iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch — no account, no analytics, and no remote developer access to your content.
  • Apple Foundation Models. Briefings, suggested topics, prep checklists, and glossary suggestions may be processed on your device or through Private Cloud Compute for more advanced requests.
  • Private Cloud Compute. Only data relevant to an advanced request is processed on Apple silicon servers. Apple states that it is never stored, is used only to fulfil your request, and is not accessible to Apple.
  • Layers you control. An optional App Lock with its own PIN and Face ID, an app-switcher cover, assignment-title controls for notifications and Live Activities, and a local Security Activity Log.

VoiceOver works on every screen, widget, Live Activity, and Watch complication, with Dynamic Type, high-contrast colours, and haptic feedback throughout. Spotlight indexes your glossary and assignments on your device — and you can turn it off in Settings. Read the full privacy commitment.

Be ready for every assignment.

Free on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. No account, no sign-up, and no SignPrep-operated data servers.

Frequently asked

Is my data private?

Your SignPrep data is stored on your device. AI preparation uses Apple Foundation Models and may run locally or, for more advanced processing, through Private Cloud Compute. Apple states that no one else can access your data, not even Apple. SignPrep operates no AI servers and cannot remotely access your AI requests or results. Privacy Preview in Settings shows how your current choices affect notifications, Live Activities, AI input, reflection exports, and Spotlight & Siri, and an optional App Lock adds a separate PIN with Face ID or Touch ID where supported. See the HIPAA question below for US interpreters.

How accurate are the AI briefings and suggestions?

SignPrep uses Apple’s general-purpose Foundation Models through Apple Intelligence. Processing may happen on your device or, for more advanced requests, through Private Cloud Compute. These models are good at organising and summarising the information you provide, but they are not medical, legal, or specialist knowledge bases and can be incomplete or wrong. Treat Briefings, suggested topics, and terms as prompts for your own preparation, always verify them against trusted sources and your own glossary, and never rely on them as a final reference.

Is SignPrep HIPAA compliant?

SignPrep is a personal preparation tool for interpreters. It is not a covered entity or a business associate, and it does not require any protected health information (PHI) to do its job. AI preparation uses Apple Foundation Models and may run on your device or through Private Cloud Compute; SignPrep operates no AI servers and cannot remotely access those requests or results. We recommend keeping patient or client details out of your calendars and out of the app; SignPrep works from the job type, not patient data. Note that consumer Apple or Google calendars are not HIPAA-compliant unless they are part of a specially configured healthcare workplace account. This is general information, not legal advice.

Which devices are supported?

SignPrep is compatible with all iPhone models running iOS 26 or later, iPad models running iPadOS 26 or later, and Apple Watch models running watchOS 26 or later. For a full list of supported devices, please visit Apple's support pages for iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch.

Which sign languages does the glossary support?

SignPrep works for interpreters of any sign language. You can tag each sign by domain and language.

Can I track CPD (CEUs) for my certification body?

Yes. CPD (Continuing Professional Development, counted as CEUs in the US) has country-specific defaults for RID, NRCPD, and NAATI, with target and renewal tracking. You can also turn CPD off if it isn't part of your practice.

Can I export my reflections and CPD?

Yes. Reflections and CPD logs export as PDF or CSV with date-range filtering.
