Prepare for your assignments in SignPrep

SignPrep is a free app for sign language interpreters, on iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch. It brings in your assignments from your calendar, prepares a short briefing for each one with Apple Intelligence, and keeps your preparation in one place.

How do my assignments get into SignPrep?

Choose your calendars in Settings › Calendar & Sync › Work Calendars. SignPrep only reads your calendars and never writes to them, and Sync Range looks 7, 14, or 30 days ahead. For a job that is not on your calendar, tap + on the Assignments tab. More on Calendar & Sync and Assignments.

What does the AI briefing tell me?

Open an assignment and the Briefing card sits under Prepare. On a device that supports Apple Intelligence, with SignPrep’s AI features on, the briefing prepares itself when you open an upcoming or ongoing assignment that has none yet: two sentences on the subject matter and the terminology to expect. Tap Regenerate for a fresh take.

On iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 it can be written by Apple’s Private Cloud Compute when that is available, your device is online, and the Private Cloud Compute switch is on; otherwise it is written on your device, so it still works offline. A line under the briefing names the model that wrote it. More on the AI briefing.

Where do I prepare for the assignment?

Prepare for this Assignment, below the briefing, opens Preparation:

  • Checklist: add, tick off, and reorder items, or apply a template. On Apple Intelligence devices, Suggest new prep items runs on your device
  • Research: Research This Topic, below
  • Key Terms: phrases worth preparing, linked to your glossary
  • Role & Context: who briefed you, your role, and any context
  • Calendar Notes: your calendar event’s notes, read-only
  • Resources: links for the assignment

Once the assignment is completed, Preparation is read-only. More on Preparation.

How does Research This Topic work?

Research This Topic writes a summary under four headings: Key Terminology, What to Expect, Communication Challenges, and Vocabulary to Review. Like the briefing, it can use Private Cloud Compute, with a line naming the model. Add to Notes copies it into Assignment Notes.

How do key terms connect to my glossary?

Suggest Key Phrases offers phrases worth preparing. Start a glossary entry from any of them, or add them to your notes. Recent Relevant Glossary Terms lists your signs for the same domain, and one tap adds a sign to your review.

On the Glossary tab, Suggestions From Recent Assignments draws terms, on your device, from your next assignment and your last three. More in the sign glossary guide.

What else helps before an assignment?

  • The Location card: one-tap copy, and Apple Maps or Google Maps directions
  • Assignment Notes, which Share Notes sends to the share sheet
  • 15-Minute Assignment Reminders before each upcoming assignment
  • “Brief me on my next assignment in SignPrep”, for its domain, start time, and how many preparation items are done

Frequently asked questions

How do Calendar Notes work, and are they private?

SignPrep can import the notes attached to your calendar events as read-only context for assignment preparation. Use Calendar Notes for Preparation, in Settings under Calendar & Sync, is on until you turn it off, and each imported assignment follows it unless you change Include in AI Context on its Calendar Notes card. Imported notes are shown separately from your own notes, are never edited back to your calendar, and never appear in widgets, notifications, Live Activities, Apple Watch surfaces, Spotlight, Siri, exports, logs or analytics, although a briefing prepared from them can appear wherever the briefing does. When included, they become part of that assignment’s AI request, as the privacy policy describes. SignPrep never receives the request or the result.

How accurate are the AI briefings and suggestions?

SignPrep uses Apple’s general-purpose Foundation Models through Apple Intelligence. Most requests run on your device; on iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, the briefing and Research This Topic can use Apple’s Private Cloud Compute. These models are good at organising and summarising the information you provide, but they are not medical, legal, or specialist knowledge bases and can be incomplete or wrong. Treat briefings, Research This Topic summaries, and terms as prompts for your own preparation, always verify them against trusted sources and your own glossary, and never rely on them as a final reference.

Is my data private?

Your SignPrep data is stored on your devices: there is no account, and SignPrep keeps no copy of it. Some features can send what they need to a service such as Apple or Google, and the privacy policy lists each one and what it sends.
